Part Twenty - Introduction

For some years there has been a discussion as to the origin of good. Some people have ventured that the Universal is Love and is Omnipresent. If this be true, where then, is not good, not good beings and not good places? Let us see:

The Universal is Spirit.

Spirit is the Creative Principle of the Universe.

We are part of the Universal.

We are therefore spiritual beings.

The only activity which spirit possesses is the power to think.

Thinking is therefore a creative process.

All form is therefore the result of the thinking process.

The change of form must also be a result of the thinking process.

Invention, organization and constructive work of all kinds are the result of the creative power of thought, as in concentration.

When the creative power of thought is manifested for the benefit of humanity, we call the result good.

When the creative power of thought is manifested in a non constructive or non beneficial manner, we call the result not good.

This indicates the origin of both good and a single word for not good; they are simply words which have been coined in order to indicate the nature of the result of the thinking or creative process.

Thought necessarily precedes and predetermines action; action precedes and predetermines condition.

Part Twenty will throw more light upon this important subject.

  1. In the Moral World we again find the same law; we speak of good and a single word that means not good, but Good is a reality, something tangible, while the single word is found to be simply a non positive condition, the absence of Good. The single word is sometimes thought to be a very real condition, but it is empty; we know this because it can always be destroyed by Good; just as Truth destroys non truth and light destroys the dark, so the single word vanishes when Good appears; there is therefore but one principle in the Moral World.
  2. We find exactly the same law obtaining in the Spiritual world; we speak of Mind and Matter as two separate entities, but clearer insight makes it evident that there is but one operative principle and that is Mind.
  3. Mind is the real and the eternal. Matter is forever changing; we know that in the eons of time a hundred years is but as a day. If we stand in any large city and let the eye rest on the innumerable large and magnificent buildings, the vast array of modern automobiles, telephones, the electric lights, and all the other conveniences of modern civilization, we may remember that not one of them was there just over two centuries ago, and if we could stand on the same spot in a hundred years from now, in all probability we should find that but few of them remained exactly the same.
  4. In the animal kingdom we find the same law of change. The millions and millions of animals come and go, a few years constituting their span of life. In the plant world the change is still more rapid. Many plants and nearly all grasses come and go in a single year. When we pass to the inorganic, we expect to find something more substantial, but as we gaze on the apparently solid continent, we are told that it arose from the ocean; we see the giant mountain and are told that the place where it now stands was once a lake; and as we stand in awe before the great cliffs in the Yosemite Valley we can easily trace the path of the glaciers which carried all before them.

Part Sixteen - Study Questions with Answers

  1. Upon what does wealth depend?
Upon an understanding of the creative nature of thought.
  2. Upon what does its true value consist?
    Upon its exchange value.
  3. Upon what does success depend?
    Upon spiritual power.
  4. Upon what does this power depend?
Upon use; use determines its existence.
  5. How may we seize our fate?
By consciously realizing the conditions which we desire to see manifested in our lives.
  6. What then is the great business of life?
    Thinking.
  7. Why is this so?
Because thought is spiritual and therefore creative. To consciously control thought is therefore to control circumstances, conditions, environment and destiny.
  8. What is the source of all good?
    Scientific correct thinking.
  9. What is scientific thinking?
A recognition of the creative nature of spiritual energy and our ability to control it.
The greatest events of an age are its best thoughts. It is the nature of thought to find its way into action.

  1. If the thought is constructive, it will have within itself the seed of its own materialization; it will live, and in the process of living, it will bring health, vibrance, and every other form of harmony.
  2. This we call good, and when we bring it upon ourselves, some of us are disposed to attribute our blessings to Mind in equilibrium.
  3. It is not good, it simply is.
  4. Our ability to differentiate it into form is our ability to manifest good.
  5. Good therefore is simply a word which we use to indicate the result of our actions, and these actions are in turn predetermined by the character of our thought.
  6. If our thought is constructive and harmonious we manifest good.
  7. If you desire to visualize a different environment, the process is simply to hold the ideal in mind, until your vision has been made real; give thought only to the ideal; this is the only thing with a place in the absolute; the environment you desire will contain everything necessary; the right persons, and the right things will come at the right time and in the right place.
  8. It is sometimes not plain how character, ability, attainment, achievement, environment and destiny can be controlled through the power of visualization, but this is an exact scientific fact.
  9. You will readily see that what we think determines the quality of mind, and that the quality of mind in turn determines our ability and mental capacity, and you can readily understand that the improvement in our ability will naturally be followed by increase in attainment and a greater control of circumstances.

Part Eight - Introduction

In this Part you will find that you may freely choose what you think but the result of your thought is governed by an immutable law! Is not this a wonderful thought? Is it not wonderful to know that our lives are subject to truth and consistency? That they are governed by law. This stability is our opportunity, because by complying with the law we can secure the desired effect with constant precision. It is the Law which makes the Universe one grand paean of Harmony. It is because of law, the Universe is.

Here, then, is the secret of the origin of good, this is all the good there ever was or ever will be.

Let me illustrate. Thought results in action, if your thought is constructive and harmonious, the result will be good.

There is therefore but one law, one principle, one cause, one Source of Power, and good is simply a word which has been coined to indicate the result of our action, or our compliance with this law.

The importance of this is well illustrated in the life of Emerson. Emerson loved the good and his life was a symphony of peace and harmony.

Here we have one grand man, intent upon achieving an ideal, he makes use of constructive thought and is therefore in harmony with Natural Law.

It is evident therefore that we are to love only the good, because love is constructive, and we shall soon find that by entertaining constructive thought we are sowing the seed and in turn shall reap the harvest.
